Getting a second ear piercing can add some extra magic to your look. However, with so many types of ear piercing to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which one to add to your ear party. If you are looking for some inspiration, here are two ideas to get you started.
The most common second ear piercing to get is in the lobe. This placement is so popular in fact that you may sometimes hear these piercings referred to simply as 'seconds.' Even within the lobe there can be different positions to choose from. Depending on the size of your ear, your piercer might offer you:
Adding a second ear piercing in the lobe is a gorgeous way to accentuate your first piercing. The double placement can unlock a wealth of beautiful new styles for you to experiment with.
Another option is to get your second ear piercing in your cartilage. These stylish piercings can add some extra edge to your look. As with lobe piercings, you could get your cartilage pierced in a variety of places. Some of the most stunning choices include:
Whichever position you choose, cartilage piercings can be a wonderful way to express your unique style.

At Monica Vinader, our ear piercing sessions cost £20/$25. This price covers up to 3 piercings per person. You can get these piercings in any position split between both ears or all on one. You will also be able to choose from our exclusive collection of piercing jewellery. Each earring is charged individually and is a separate cost from the piercing appointment price.
All ear piercings will cause a degree of discomfort because ear piercings are technically wounds. The amount your second ear piercing will hurt depends on your pain threshold as well as the position of your piercing. If your first piercing was in the lobe, you can expect a similar sensation for a second lobe piercing, or slightly more discomfort for a cartilage piercing. If you started your ear party with a cartilage piercing and are now adding a second ear piercing in the lobe, you can expect this to be less painful. After the piercing is complete, you may feel a dull achy pain but this should dissipate in a fairly short time.
Before you visit Monica Vinader for your second ear piercing appointment there are a few steps which you should take. We recommend that you:
Drink plenty of water and eat a light meal before your piercing. Doing this can help to stabilise your blood sugars which is an important factor in avoiding feelings of nausea or dizziness following your piercing.
Alcohol and tablets such as aspirin and ibuprofen may thin your blood. This in turn can affect how much your piercing bleeds. Caffeine can also have a similar effect so avoid drinking large amounts of coffee before your appointment.
Keeping your hair away from your piercing whilst it is new can help to prevent irritation and other complications. Either tie your hair away from your ear before your appointment or bring a headband or hair tie with you so you can keep your hair back.
Please remember to bring a valid photo ID with you to your appointment as we may need to verify your age.
If you have any more questions before your appointment, please refer to our piercing FAQs or feel free to get in touch.
An ear piercing can take between 6 weeks and 12 months to heal depending on where on the ear you are getting pierced. Ear lobe piercings usually take between 6 and 8 weeks to recover. Daith, conch, helix and tragus piercings take between 6 and 12 months to heal. This is because the thickness of the cartilage requires more time to recover. The amount of time a piercing takes to heal doesn't change depending on whether it is your first ear piercing, second ear piercing or seventh. The key for a swift and healthy healing is to follow the proper aftercare.
At your second ear piercing appointment, our expert piercers will provide you with some aftercare advice. Following the proper aftercare can help you to avoid an ear infection and other complications in the healing process. Here are some top points to remember:
Once your second ear piercing has healed, the fun of styling it can begin. From unique and trendy looks to timeless and classic ones, the variety of women's and men's earrings is endless. Here are a few of our favourites to wear in your second piercing.
For a splash of glamour, huggie earrings are a great choice. These versatile earrings can be worn in the lobe or in cartilage piercings to stunning effect. Pair huggie hoops in your second lobe piercing with large hoop earrings in you first for a striking statement look. Or, add some extra sparkle to an everyday look with a huggie in your conch or helix piercing.
Stud
earrings are a must have for any jewellery
box. Their minimalist design means they can be worn
effortlessly from day to dusk. Wear a stud earring in both your
first and second lobe piercing to introduce some casual glamour to
an everyday look. For a special occasion, our
diamond marquise studs pair beautifully with a
statement earring.
Having your second ear piercing opens up the opportunity to wear gorgeous pieces like our mini gem chain stud. Featuring two handcrafted green onyx studs joined by a delicate chain, these earrings require two piercings to be worn. Whilst the gemstones exude classic beauty, the chain adds some contemporary edge for a truly attention grabbing look.
Make the most out of your second lobe piercing by styling it with a climber earring. These utterly stunning pieces run up the edge of your ear to give the illusion of multiple earrings whilst only requiring one piercing. Climber earrings are an excellent choice if you'd like to create a curated ear without the commitment of getting multiple piercings. Bold and beautiful, this type of earring is sure to turn heads.
